چکیده

Abstract Climate change and soil degradation are the issues depleting soil's ability to promote good yield. One of ways combat this is practice conservation agriculture (CA). This study was carried out explore investigate impact CA. Multinomial endogenous switching regression model cross-sectional data were used determinants adoption CA on income smallholder maize farmers in Mpumalanga Province, South Africa. Three categories (minimum tillage, crop diversification a combination both minimum tillage diversification) considered. Analysing the low adoption of water conservation technologies by smallholder farmers in Southern Africa

Natural resource degradation and water scarcity are a global concern, which typically threatens the sustainability of smallholder farmers’ livelihoods in semi-arid developing areas. As part of research efforts, a number of water-conservation technologies (WCT) have been developed, yet with low adoption rates in smallholder farming environments. This paper discusses the concepts of adoption and ...

Conservation Agriculture Improves Soil Quality, Crop Yield, and Incomes of Smallholder Farmers in North Western Ghana

Conservation agriculture (CA) practices are being widely promoted in many areas in sub-Saharan Africa to recuperate degraded soils and improve ecosystem services. This study examined the effects of three tillage practices [conventional moldboard plowing (CT), hand hoeing (MT) and no-tillage (NT)], and three cropping systems (continuous maize, soybean-maize annual rotation, and soybean/maize int...

The use of conservation agriculture by smallholder farmers in central and northern Mozambique , 2010 / 11

Agricultural productivity levels depend on the adoption of (improved) agricultural technologies, among other aspects. However, the use of improved technologies in Mozambique is still very limited. Data from the National Agricultural Survey of 2012, known as Inquérito Agrícola Integrado, show that less than 3% of smallholder farmers used inorganic fertilizers, 6% used pesticides, 9% used improve...

Diagnostic research to enable adoption of transgenic crop varieties by smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa

Diagnostic research is important in helping to create an enabling environment for promising biotechnology products in smallholder agriculture, before rather than after release. The biotechnology products that now hold promise for poor people in Sub-Saharan Africa are those that tackle economically important, biotic or abiotic problems not easily addressed through conventional plant breeding or ...
